Abstract

This chapter was written to explain some of the contemporary trends and emerging technologies in research libraries. The chapter discussed the concept of a research library and differentiated between the services offered in traditional versus digital research libraries. The contemporary trends discussed include big data, blockchain technology, podcast, vodcast, data everywhere, drones, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, unplugged, makerspace, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
